The name given to a kind of landscape typified by the mixed woodland and pasture of Devon and parts of Cornwall where fields and winding country lanes are bordered by high banks topped by dense hedgrows.

Etymology

Old Norman boscage from the Old French root bosc  (“wood”) > Modern French bois (“wood”)
