Nurdle

This term was originally applied to the small, smooth-worn fragments of glass found on beaches but is now more commonly usually used for the plastic pellets and micro particles also known as nurdels [see Nurdle] that pollute many marine ecosystems.

Etymology

Fanciful allusion to the teardrop shape of some beach-worn glass fragments.
